An Expression of Our Love

Valentines is upon us, it is time for all lovers to express their “true love”, by spending large sums of money to convince themselves how much they do love each other. There are diamond pendants, flowers of every kind, candies and an excellent assortment of other gifts. You can take them out for fine dining, a weekend at the beach, or go all out with a cruise to some exotic place.
Why do we always wait to show our love on one special day? Can we not, through actions each day, show how much we care and appreciate the one we love. Some men may feel it is beneath them that they do the dishes or make a bed or even vacuum; but through these small acts, we show our love all year long. I am not saying that we should not purchase an appropriate gift for our partner on this Valentine's Day. What I am saying is that love is not a one day a year event.
My parents were great examples of true love. I saw my father on many occasions cleaning the house, doing the dishes, making the bed, and all other like duties.  I saw my mother darning my father socks, mowing the lawn, taking out the trash and on several occasions going with my father to assist him at his work. My father brought small gifts home for my mother, no reason, just because he'd seen it and knew she would like it. Love is an expression of our feelings, a recognition of our actions and a desire to elevate one's partner.
We can all use some help when it comes to relationships. We're in a world that “self” is the dominant factor. We do need to feel good about ourselves, but once we do, there are others around us to show concern for also. Let us make a conscientious effort on this Valentine's Day to consider all those that have loved us and also those we love. In doing so hopefully our lives will be enhanced and we can be more compassionate and caring to everyone we encounter throughout the entire year.
